One of Birmingham’s largest privately held companies has expanded its footprint in the Magic City.

Command Alkon has committed to a long-term lease extension at 1800 International Drive and has expanded its space to 45,000 square feet, according to a release from the company on Wednesday.

“We are committed to making the most fiscally responsible business decision and Point One Holdings (owner of International Park) made our decision easy by being a great partner to us,” said Command Alkon President & CEO Phil Ramsey.

The release did not disclose whether Command Alkon planned to increase its employment roll at International Park, but it did say the company was poised for future growth at the facility.

“Command Alkon chose to renew its lease prior to the 2019 expiration because they wanted to be prepared for future growth and Point One Holdings, the building owner, was motivated to keep Command Alkon as the anchor tenant within the building,” said Monty Harris, Savills Studley corporate managing director, who advised Command Alkon.

David Fullington, senior vice president of CBRE, represented Point One Holdings in the deal. Monty Harris of Savills Studley represented Command Alkon.

“We are excited about continuing our long term relationship with Command Alkon at 1800 International Park,” Fullington said. “Command Alkon is an outstanding company and we look forward to serving them for many years to come.”

Command Alkon was No. 38 on the BBJ’s list of largest privately held companies in our 2014 Book of Lists. The company had 195 employees and a 2013 revenue total of $85.2 million in 2013.

Birmingham’s KPS Group served as architect for the project, helping to reshape the work environment inside Command Alkon.

“At the outset of the project, KPS Group conducted a visioning session with Command Alkon’s leadership team and solicited feedback from all employees about the company’s image, brand, space and growth via an in-depth questionnaire,” said Donna Dowling of KPS Group. “It was important that the work space offer flexibility for Command Alkon’s future growth plans and be an environment that would attract and retain the best talent. The design team reflected the company’s new direction in its space with a light, bright, flexible interior featuring wall graphics that portray key elements about the company’s history.”

Point One Holdings purchased the International Park building, along with Blue Lake Center last November. International Park is around 146,000 square feet.

“We are pleased and complimented the Command Alkon has chosen International Park as their corporate home for the long term. They are a leader in their industry and we believe their choice of International Park is indicative of the overall quality of the property and the management,” said David Garfinkle, a managing member of PointOne Holdings.
